Greater Ottawa is the term for the Greater Region of Ottawa. As of 2006, approximately 956,000 people live in Greater Ottawa, but that number will soon reach 1 million and over.
Our definition of Greater Ottawa currently includes:
- City of Ottawa
- City of Clarence-Rockland
- Township of Russell
- Township of North Grenville
- Village of Merrickville-Wolford
- Township of Beckwith
- Town of Carleton Place
- Town of Mississippi Mills
- Township of Montague
- Township of McNab/Braeside
- Town of Arnprior
- Township of Horton
- Town of Renfrew
- Township of Whitewater Region
- Township of Laurentian Valley
- City of Pembroke
- Town of Smiths Falls
- Town of Perth
- Township of Drummond/North Elmsley
Our definition of Greater Ottawa, however, encompasses much less than the National Capital Region does. The National Capital Region includes well over 1.1 million people because it includes Gatineau. Once we get more established as a wiki, however, we might start to include Gatineau and other parts of Quebec in Greater Ottawa.
How about we do a breakdown of population by district:
- Downtown: 18,000 (mainly businesses and not many houses).
- West End: 310,000.
- East End, Vanier and Rockcliffe Park: 160,000
- Orleans: 85,000
- Ottawa South: 101,000
- Kanata and Stittsville: 85,000.
- Rural Ottawa: 81,000.
- Towns Near Ottawa: 116,000.
